Time Warner Cable SportsNet plans extensive Lakers coverage

Time Warner Cable SportsNet will have extensive coverage of the Los Angeles Lakers in the postseason, starting Sunday with pre and post-game coverage of Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs.

In addition, Time Warner Cable SportsNet will televise Games 2 through 7 of the playoff series against the Spurs. Sunday’s Game 1 can be seen on ABC at 12:30 p.m.

EL SEGUNDO, CA (April 18, 2013) – Time Warner Cable SportsNet will provide extensive Lakers playoff coverage throughout the team’s playoff run, led by the familiar on-air talent that Lakers fans have watched all season long. The broadcast team of color commentator Stu Lantz and play-by-play announcer Bill Macdonald will call all Lakers playoff games airing on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and sideline reporter Mike Trudell, reporter John Ireland and analysts James Worthy, Robert Horry, Kurt Rambis, Chris McGee, Dave Miller and Andy Adler will continue to provide expert analysis on the network.

 

Live studio shows “#LakeShow” and “Access SportsNet: Lakers” will air for every Lakers playoff game, with expanded coverage, commentary and analysis surrounding each contest. On non-game nights, “Access SportsNet” will provide insights and updates about the Lakers and the rest of the NBA. Live pre-game coverage of Game 1 on Sunday, April 21 will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Worthy, McGee, Miller and Adler in studio.

 

A new episode of “Connected With…Mike D’Antoni” will premiere tomorrow, Friday, April 19 at 9:00 p.m. PT. Chris McGee sat down with the Lakers Head Coach in the Time Warner Cable SportsNet studio to discuss joining the Lakers, making the playoffs, working with players like Kobe Bryant and more.

 

The popular behind-the-scenes series “Backstage: Lakers” will continue throughout the Lakers’ playoff run, with episode 30 premiering on Wednesday, April 24 at 10:00 p.m. PT following Time Warner Cable SportsNet’s coverage of Game 2. The new episode will go inside last night’s Lakers win over the Rockets, giving fans an exclusive look into the locker room before and after the game, and will follow the team as it prepares for Game 1 on Sunday.

 

Time Warner Cable SportsNet will also debut the new series “Through the Lens” on Wednesday, April 24 at 10:30 p.m. The new half-hour show will give Lakers fans a look at the team’s storied history through the eyes and camera lens of long-time Lakers team photographer Andy Bernstein, who has been with the team since 1982 and is responsible for photographing some of the Lakers’ and NBA’s most iconic moments.  Additional episodes of “Through the Lens” will premiere this summer. In the first episode, Bernstein tells the stories behind his 10 favorite Lakers still photos.

 

Korean Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) will continue for all Lakers playoff games on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, with commentary by Paul Lee, Young-don Lee, Seung Chan Lim, Sang Yeol Moon and Ji-Seoung You.

MLB’s Extra Innings free preview begins Monday

Major League Baseball’s Extra Innings package that offers up to 80 out-of-market baseball games per week will offer a free preview beginning Monday.

The preview, offered by Time Warner Cable, DirecTV and Verizon FiOS, runs through Sunday, April 7.

MLB Extra Innings will showcase approximately 80 games during the first week. The full package delivers over 2,000 out-of-market baseball game telecasts during the regular season.

The early bird offer for digital customers is $189 (4 installments of $47.25), a $10 savings off of the full-season price if ordered by April 7.  The package will then be available for $199.

Time Warner Cable Desert Cities customers will receive up to 24 games in HD for the first time this season.

On the Time Warner Cable system, Extra Innings is available on channels 938-951 with the HD channels being 936 and 937.

FOX Sports West to air 150 Los Angeles Angels games

FOX Sports West will televise approximately 150 Los Angeles Angels baseball games during the 2013 season.

Regular season coverage begins on Opening Day, at 12:30 p.m. Monday from Cincinnati with a half-hour “Angels Live” pre-game show.

Victor Rojas enters his fourth season calling play-by-play for the Angels alongside Mark Gubicza, who enters his sixth season offering color commentary.

In addition, “Angels Live” pre- and post-game shows return, surrounding every home and road Angels telecast this season on FOX Sports West. The half-hour program will feature Michael Eaves as host, while Jose Mota and Tim Salmon offer analysis and Jaime Maggio delivers player interviews and reports.

Complementing live game telecasts, “Angels Weekly” returns with exclusive content and insider access surrounding the Angels organization. Hosted by Alex Curry, a new half-hour program will air every Friday throughout the regular season, immediately following “Angels Live” post-game coverage.

To preview the upcoming season, Curry hosts “Angels Weekly: Season Preview” which debuts this Thursday at 6 p.m. on Prime Ticket, followed by encore presentation at 10:30 p.m. The hour-long program will offer an inside look at spring training, one-on-one interviews with Mike Scioscia and Jerry Dipoto, and analysis from Rojas and Gubicza.

Announce and Production Teams Assigned for NCAA First Four™ and Second Round Coverage

 

Turner Sports and CBS Sports’ exclusive coverage of the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship tips off with first round coverage of the NCAA First Four™ on Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20 (6:00 PM, ET; both days) on truTV. Second-round game coverage begins Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22 (12:00 Noon-12:00 AM, ET; both days), with all games available live in their entirety across four national television networks: CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV.  Additionally, on Thursday and Friday, truTV will televise a one-hour pregame show at 11:00 AM, ET.

Marv Albert and Steve Kerr will call the action, with Craig Sager courtside for the two First Four games on Tuesday. Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg, along with courtside reporter Tracy Wolfson, will handle the call for the First Four games on Wednesday.  Studio coverage for the First Four originates from Atlanta and features Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Steve Smith and Rex Chapman on Tuesday with Matt Winer, Seth Davis, Smith and Chapman providing analysis on Wednesday (6:00 PM, ET; both days).

Following are the tip times for the First Four games, as well as the announce and production team assignments for the second round games.  Tip times for the third round games on Saturday will be announced on Thursday after the conclusion of the day’s games. Sunday’s tip times will be released after the conclusion of play on Friday.  Fans can access a Channel Finder for every tournament game at www.ncaa.com/march-madness.

DirecTV could drop NFL Sunday Ticket after 2014

Could every game of the NFL season be available to cable TV subscribers in a couple of seasons?

Don’t be surprised if that’s the case after the 2014 NFL season.

Since 1994, DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket has been the only option to watching every out-of-market NFL regular-season game each Sunday.

DirecTV has paid dearly for the exclusive right to broadcast Sunday Ticket. The most recent agreement, which runs through the 2014 season, costs DirecTV $4 billion.

During an investors conference call Wednesday, DirecTV CFO Pat Doyle said that if the exclusivity price goes too high when the current deal expires, DirecTV might pursue a non-exclusive deal that would allow other companies to also carry Sunday Ticket or even drop the Sunday Ticket package entirely.

So the days when hoisting a satellite dish on the rooftop was the only way to watch every NFL game might come to an end after two more seasons.

So what happens if DirecTV’s exclusivity contract ends? Well, the NFL could offer the Sunday Ticket package to rival Dish Network and cable TV companies, providing millions of television-watching households with access to every NFL game from start to finish.
