STARTING POINTS: What’s Mayan is yours

Just a reminder that if nothing happens with this whole Mayan apocalypse thing, Hey, it’s not the end of the world. (ba-Dum-bum) But seriously folks, I’ll keep it brief just in case.

POINT ONE: What are blogs like this for, if not to predict the score of the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl game today? Without a doubt in my mind, it’s going to be Central Florida 33, Ball State 20.

POINT TWO: Good high school basketball doubleheader at Palm Springs High School today as part of the Palm Springs Winter Classic: Palm Desert vs. Calabasas at 5:30 p.m. and Palm Springs vs. Ralston Valley (a talented team from Colorado) at 7 p.m. The two winners play for the title at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

POINT THREE: The Rangers appear ready to sign Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, a rather unlikable fellow who relishes getting under the skin of anyone he comes in contact with. It has been said cleverly about Pierzynski: “He’s one of those players that if he’s on the other team you hate him, but if he’s on your team … you hate him a little less.”

POINT FOUR: High school hoops phenom Jabari Parker, whom Sports Illustrated called the best high school player since LeBron, announced Thursday that he will sign with Duke. Finally, the Blue Devils catch a break, he said sarcastically.

POINT FIVE: Is the best college basketball team in California UC Irvine? The Anteaters won at USC last night, in front of a crowd that could only be described as (hold on, I’m looking up the opposite of raucous) subdued. This coming a few weeks after losing by one in overtime at UCLA earlier in the year. The real correct answer is probably San Diego State, but if you see UC Irvine in your bracket come March, pick them to win a game.
