Rancho Mirage resident and current USC junior Lynette Lim finished her second appearance in the Olympic Games early this morning.
She competed in the 800-meter freestyle swim race at 2:30 a.m. and finished 31st overall among 36 qualifiers. Her time was a bit slower than in Beijing, 8:52.92.
Representing Singapore in her second Olympic Games — she holds dual citizenship — she also participated in the 400-meter race last week. She finished 30th in that race. A top eight finish is needed to advance to the medal round.
The 800-meter final is Friday at 11:45 a.m.
Lim, who graduated from Palm Springs High School, holds a personal best time in the 800 at 8:35.41. The world record time, which is held by Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain is 8:14.10 who clocked the fastest time in this year’s prelims at 8:21.78. Adlington is defending the gold medal she won at the Beijing Games. Adlington already won bronze this year in the 400 meter.
